


With her star on the ascendancy the young actress became a regular fashion magazine cover star, while her relationship with Polanski was the subject of much newspaper speculation. In 1967, Tate starred as Jennifer North in Valley of the Dolls – although panned by the critics, it earned her a Golden Globe nomination for best newcomer and, like her big-screen debut, would go on to gain a significant cult following. While filming in London, Tate met the film director Roman Polanski who, despite initially dubious, was persuaded to cast her in The Fearless Vampire Killers, which he also starred in.ĭuring production, the pair began a relationship, and moved into the director’s apartment in London after film wrapped.
